Blu & Exile
Blu & Exile's debut album, Below the Heavens, is an excellent piece of hip-hop work. If the first track off this album doesn't hit you... I don't know what will. The lyrics are conscious and the beats flow. This is another excellent example of what hip-hop needs right now... more cats like these. Get it now... available on iTunes. What's even better is you can preview the whole album in full at Myspace: Blu's MySpace Page. Remember it's B-L-U!!!

Blue Scholars

A Podcast that I subscribe to, IndieFeed Hip-Hop, featured a song by Blue Scholars back in the beginning of June. The song was entitled "Fire for the People". After listening to the track... I quickly went to find out if they had an album out. The one that I was able to get my hands on was their latest release, Bayani which happened to be released the same day the track was featured on IndieFeed Hip-Hop. The production is tight and the lyrics are even tighter; they're conscious and down-to-earth. If you are looking to break away from the cliche ridden mainstream hip-hop that is all starting to sound the same you need to check this album out.
